Throughout constant attempts by the studios to threaten, gaslight, and otherwise divide the WGA, union members stood strong and kept fast in their demands. The result is a historic win guaranteeing not only pay increases and residual guarantees, but some of the first serious restrictions on the use of AI in a major industry.

This win is going to have a ripple effect not only throughout Hollywood but in all industries threatened by AI and wage reduction. Studio executives tried to insist that job replacement through AI is inevitable and wage increases for staff members is not financially viable. By refusing to give in for almost five long months, the writer's showed all of the US and frankly the world that that isn't true.

A little-discussed detail in the Lavender AI article is that Israel is killing people based on being in the same Whatsapp group [1] as a suspected militant [2]. Where are they getting this data? Is WhatsApp sharing it? Lavender is Israel's system of "pre-crime" [3] - they use AI to guess who to kill in Gaza, and then bomb them when they're at home, along with their entire family. (Obscenely, they call this program "Where's Daddy"). One input to the AI is whether you're in a WhatsApp group with a suspected member of Hamas. There's a lot wrong with this - I'm in plenty of WhatsApp groups with strangers, neighbours, and in the carnage in Gaza you bet people are making groups to connect. But the part I want to focus on is whether they get this information from Meta. Meta has been promoting WhatsApp as a "private" social network, including "end-to-end" encryption of messages. Providing this data as input for Lavender undermines their claim that WhatsApp is a private messaging app. It is beyond obscene and makes Meta complicit in Israel's killings of "pre-crime" targets and their families, in violation of International Humanitarian Law and Meta's publicly stated commitment to human rights. No social network should be providing this sort of information about its users to countries engaging in "pre-crime".

Mehrak’s legality hasn’t been mentioned at all in-game as of now, and as it’s been used consistently, both in kaveh’s hangout, a parade of providence, and now nahida’s birthday event, with not one mention of legality or potential trespasses, makes it seem that that’s how things will stay - especially since Cyno has met/is aware of mehrak’s existence during the battle scene during a parade of providence (then again, cyno did meet the wanderer during this event, and yet in nahida’s birthday event it seems he’s only HEARD of the wanderer through sethos??) but even then, since Cyno trusts Tighnari with karkata’s continued existence, it’s likely not a stretch to say that to Cyno, Kaveh can be trusted with Mehrak’s existence (it’s all very iffy)

Mehrak’s existence, overall, has had little focus other than its usage in battle, its official introduction in a parade of providence, where kaveh stipulates it has low intelligence, and was built to assist him, as well as being incapable of talking back and giving him ‘attitude’ (implicitly comparing mehrak to alhaitham), and in kaveh’s hangout when he works on designing a building. It’s only in recent events, such as cyno’s second story quest, and now in nahida’s birthday event, that mehrak has gotten more mentions, and now a spotlight, which is all in relation to coffee, tying back to alhaitham and kaveh’s improved relationship (the coffee analysis will be in the updated essay finally!!). as of right now, overall, mehrak doesn’t appear to be a major focus

It might be strange for the game to mention now that mehrak has been an illegal creation all this time, unless it’s a significant plot point that has to be resolved, but if mehrak is further explored, like in the temple of silence for example (hoyoverse I am once again asking), then perhaps this collective ignoring of a crime occurring will be explained away, if mentioned at all? Mehrak’s accepted existence in general poses so many questions. I’m interested in the specifics of the ban, like does it depend on the autonomy of the machine in question? Abattouy aimed to make Karkata essentially human, capable of individual thought, processing, emotion, and conversation, which definitively broaches on the intersection of mechanical and biological life which caused the Akademiya to ban this type of research in the first place. So if a machine is able to act on its own, irrespective of human interference, then this is what the akademiya would want to prevent

In mehrak’s case, it’s unclear as to what its limits are, but from what has been shown so far, it seems that mehrak can only act on kaveh’s commands and when held in battle – it’s uncertain rn whether mehrak can act independently of this, but as kaveh invented it to only assist in certain matters, it’s doubtful. But then again, we don’t have a great scope of whether it can experience emotions, as it has shown signs of being distressed in a parade of providence when kaveh states that it can’t talk back, and when being scolded by kaveh in nahida’s birthday event

if mehrak has limited intelligence, it's interesting to compare mehrak with karkata. abattouy was attempting to make karkata understand human language, and be able to respond in order to have conversation, which was proved impossible, whereas although mehrak only speaks in beeps, kaveh is shown to have a thorough understanding of what it’s saying? Mehrak can be programmed to recognise people’s voices, but seemingly also language, as mehrak can obey spoken command, which is what abattouy tried to accomplish but was unable to with modern technology.

Mehrak, on the other hand, understands kaveh’s basic requests – which is made even funnier in kaveh’s old sketchbook, where he says that more than anything he really wants mehrak to understand what he’s saying. he got his wish but at what cost???

Mehrak being made from ancient technology, belonging to that of king deshret’s civilisation, offers many interesting paths that could be explored in future events, as besides the primal constructs roaming around, the puzzles in the desert, and now the temple of silence, no technology really exists from that time. Someone commented that mehrak’s presence in nahida’s birthday event, in conjunction with the event being based around ancient technology with the wedjat eye, could be highlighting mehrak’s irregularity in modern day sumeru – potentially foreshadowing for a future event that could further expand upon mehrak? Furthermore artificial intelligence is also being actively promoted to be used in the government so that in tandem with the regulation ban will essentially lead national security to be thrown out the window. People tend to forget basic internet safety on forums but almost everyone forgets it when asking an AI it to do whatever tedious task that needs to be done. I've been seeing something over the last couple days that is extremely alarming. I'm sure you have, too.

Social media posts, tags and accounts are beginning to be suppressed. It's no secret that Trump and his goons have a Monopoly on all the popular social media apps, like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and it is extremely likely that TikTok has been sold to Meta.

It's extremely disturbing to think about simply in the context of American adults. Nobody is immune to propaganda, but especially not under educated, cell phone addicted Americans being fed propaganda by their government without any authority to fact check or dispute information. But something even more disturbing is the presence of another demographic.

You know who's on these apps? Children. Impressionable, vulnerable children and teenagers with developing brains who spend hours and hours scrolling on social media. Who look to social media for their news, their facts.

And, even more disturbing is the plans the American government has for the department of education. It's very clear here what is going to be done, what we've been seeing for years and years that radical right wing groups always, always push for; the suppression of truth and science in favor of an authoritarian agenda. And, in the modern day, I believe we are witnessing an attempt to replace human critical thinking with Artificial Intelligence.

In other words, vulnerable, impressionable children being raised in a generation where the average teenager has 8+ hours of screen time in a day are now going to be active in online spaces where propaganda is going to be pumped into their minds, while activism and truth is suppressed. Artificial intelligence can do all the work for them, critical thinking will be a "waste of time", and already inadequate education systems are going to be tarnished the rest of the way.

This is terrifying. This is disgusting. This is fascism.

We've become so reliant on social media for communication with our loved ones, communities, for a platform to speak our minds, that it's too difficult to simply cease using these apps. Children are already chemically addicted to them. We are, too.

What in the world can we do about any of this? How do we fight against a dictatorship that suppresses us when we try? What about climate change, the end of the Earth?

Is this the end for us?

That's a terrifying thought, but it's one you should keep in your mind for the days to come.

It's a question many other generations were forced to ask themselves, too. The threat was just as real then as it is now.

Maybe some of you have thought about death, before. Maybe you have come close, or believed you did. I have. And from that, one thing that's stuck with me, one question that's stuck out in my mind for years now, is one I try to live by every day. One reason I'm writing this all out in a hope to reach somebody, anybody, make someone think.

If you died, would you be proud of what you left behind?

Would you be confident to say that you did what you thought was right? Would your grandchildren be proud of you? Can you be certain that you would be remembered as a good, caring person who tried to do the best they could in a terrible situation? Or will society let your memory fade away as somebody who couldn't lift a finger to help in the face of injustice?

You can do so much more than you think you can. Resist. Being kind, compassionate and understanding is resistance. Listening to the stories of your fellow human beings is resistance. Thinking for yourself and keeping your eyes open is resistance. Not letting your fear paralyze you is resistance.

You'll never get a more meaningful chance to change the world than you will right now. Keep your eyes and ears open. Resist until the end. Protect our children and crush the fascists.

Do it for yourself, if you have to. But do it. The time to act is now.

and throughout the quest you are given options to point out that it's literally textbook exploitation and that you don't really want to participate in putting these little HIGHLY INTELLIGENT animals into what is essentially slavery. and when you complete the quest you are awarded with a little medal for having the most productive chimera squad and you can respond with "i don't feel happy about winning this." so it's not even like the writers were simply blind to the strangeness of it all. they point it out themselves! BUT NOTHING IS DONE ABOUT IT!

I cannot be the only person who knows that Hope’s voice in that Fortnite live event was AI generated I keep trying to explain to my friends how you can hear the system noise whenever her voice changes pitch and they’re looking at me like I have 3 heads… To Elaborate since this is doing a little bit of traction: All I can really link here is the upload of the event itself. A new investigation by +972 Magazine and Local Call reveals that the Israeli army has developed an artificial intelligence-based program known as “Lavender,” unveiled here for the first time. According to six Israeli intelligence officers, who have all served in the army during the current war on the Gaza Strip and had first-hand involvement with the use of AI to generate targets for assassination, Lavender has played a central role in the unprecedented bombing of Palestinians, especially during the early stages of the war. In fact, according to the sources, its influence on the military’s operations was such that they essentially treated the outputs of the AI machine “as if it were a human decision.”

During the early stages of the war, the army gave sweeping approval for officers to adopt Lavender’s kill lists, with no requirement to thoroughly check why the machine made those choices or to examine the raw intelligence data on which they were based. One source stated that human personnel often served only as a “rubber stamp” for the machine’s decisions, adding that, normally, they would personally devote only about “20 seconds” to each target before authorizing a bombing — just to make sure the Lavender-marked target is male. This was despite knowing that the system makes what are regarded as “errors” in approximately 10 percent of cases, and is known to occasionally mark individuals who have merely a loose connection to militant groups, or no connection at all. Moreover, the Israeli army systematically attacked the targeted individuals while they were in their homes — usually at night while their whole families were present — rather than during the course of military activity. According to the sources, this was because, from what they regarded as an intelligence standpoint, it was easier to locate the individuals in their private houses. Additional automated systems, including one called “Where’s Daddy?” also revealed here for the first time, were used specifically to track the targeted individuals and carry out bombings when they had entered their family’s residences.

The Lavender machine joins another AI system, “The Gospel,” about which information was revealed in a previous investigation by +972 and Local Call in November 2023, as well as in the Israeli military’s own publications. A fundamental difference between the two systems is in the definition of the target: whereas The Gospel marks buildings and structures that the army claims militants operate from, Lavender marks people — and puts them on a kill list. In addition, according to the sources, when it came to targeting alleged junior militants marked by Lavender, the army preferred to only use unguided missiles, commonly known as “dumb” bombs (in contrast to “smart” precision bombs), which can destroy entire buildings on top of their occupants and cause significant casualties. “You don’t want to waste expensive bombs on unimportant people — it’s very expensive for the country and there’s a shortage [of those bombs],” said C., one of the intelligence officers. Another source said that they had personally authorized the bombing of “hundreds” of private homes of alleged junior operatives marked by Lavender, with many of these attacks killing civilians and entire families as “collateral damage.”

Remember, the Israeli occupation government considers all men over the age of 16 to be Hamas operatives hence why they've claimed to have killed over 9,000 of them (which matches the number of Palestinian men killed according to the Ministry of Health). So, when the article speaks of 'low level' or 'high level militants' they're likely speaking of civilians.

If Israel knew who Hamas fighters are, Oct 7th wouldn't have caught them off guard and they wouldn't still be fighting the Palestinian resistance every single day.
